Try these steps to show your folks you are ready for the responsibility of having your own room. It will all come in really handy when you get ready to sell them your plan!
You will be such a smooth operator if you develop a plan to decorate your room!
Take some paper and map out the basics: furniture, lamps, bookcase - the big stuff. It doesn't have to be fancy. Draw each item on a piece of paper. Then cut out each one (sort of like paper dolls). Now take a piece of paper and show where each item will go. Voila! (that's French for "here it is!").
Now you have a basic plan, and you are using stuff you already have!
Your folks will be amazed.
Take big money out of the deal. Suggest going to yard sales or even resale stores like GoodWill to find items at little to no cost. Big stores like Home Depot and Lowes often have high quality paint in a section called "Ooops" for really cheap. Your Aunt may help by sewing pillows. Your grandparents may help by giving you furniture they don't need, and all you have to do is fix it up a bit. Experiment with your own artwork and creativity to add color and things for your walls. Show effort to save and your folks may be willing to increase your decorating budget.
