Money matters. Even for tweens.
Many things affect how well our economy is doing. This includes how houses are selling, how many people are employed, and how much money banks loan to people to buy homes, cars and other things.
Our President
and government leaders are working very hard to fix our economy.

You and your family may not see how the economy is improving right away. Don't feel alone. It takes time for the economy to change and for families to see how things are improving.
A bonus is paid to employees when they perform a job that goes way beyond what was expected. Many times an employee gets this in writing before they accept a job. Many companies feel they have to offer a bonus in order to keep the very best employees. Think about it like this: a great player on a basketball or football team is very valuable. The player helps the team to win. If the team wins the Super Bowl - the player is paid more money. That's an example of how a bonus works and why certain people earn them.
What is a bonus? I hear many people who work at banks and on "Wall Street" are getting a bonus. Why?
That will depend on how the economy is affecting your family. Remember and understand that that money is tight for everyone right now. More than likely, your parents want to make sure that all your wishes for Christmas come true. Remember that. But it just may not be possible this year. If that is the case - do your part. Be thankful for what they can get you. Help them out by not asking for more than is realistic at this time. What's more important - having a new game or clothes - or having a family. Next year things will be better. And that's a promise!
