Tween Power. Politics, News and Community Service for tweens, kids, and pre-teens. Tween World
You don't have to have a college degree to serve.
You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Tween Power Politics and Community Service for kids and tweens
Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15, 1929. He grew up in Atlanta Georgia where he attended a segregated school system. Segregation means that tweens of different races did not attend school together.
Dr. King is best known for his contributions to the civil rights movement. He led marches, protests and sit-ins to stop segregation and promote integration. He even went to jail for what he believed in. He served with the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC).
One of his most famous contributions to American history was his "I Have a Dream" Speech. He delivered this speech to a crowd of 250,000, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at our nation's capitol in Washington DC.
It is important for tweens to remember Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr. He was brave. He led a life of service to our country. His work still works to improve race relations in the United States - and all over the world!
Celebrate his birthday by being of service - and thinking about what you can do to make freedom ring in your community, our country, and our world!
A HAPPY BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE, in honor of
Reverend, Doctor Martin Luther King Jr.
He attended a historically black college, Morehouse, in Atlanta, where he earned his Bachelor's degree.
He received his doctorate degree from Boston University. He also received 5 honorary degrees from other universities and colleges! And he became the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
Stevie Wonder was very active in making sure that Dr. King's birthday became a national holiday. That is why he recorded the song - "Happy Birthday To You."
